HP-CAT and DC-CAT on the road to MaRIE

A meeting was held in Washington DC on February 24, 2011 to address, with the sites and HQ staff, "Development of a Coordinated Strategy for NNSA Investments at Synchrotron Sources."  This meeting addressed potential opportunities for operational and scientific collaboration between HPCAT and DCCAT, and future roadmap facilities such as MaRIE.  HPCAT stands for "High Pressure Collaborative Access Team" at the Argonne  Advanced Photon Source where much work has been done to make significant advances in understanding chemical and physical processes at high pressures.  DCCAT stands for "Dynamic Compression Collaborative Access Team," planned to be built at APS; it will explore frontiers of measurement of transient phenomena, and advance diagnostics and techniques for the future. 

This meeting was part of an ongoing process to understand how existing and enhanced capabilities address needs generated in previous workshops, such at the September 2009 Compression Science Workshop held in Santa Fe, NM.  MaRIE roadmap activities will continue to refine how HPCAT, DCCAT and other facilities and capabilities continue to extend our knowledge enroute to MaRIE
